My Turn

The cover of My Turn is a pastoral painting. Lil Baby sits on top of a large jutting rock surrounded by water, greenery and baby goats, lighting up a smoke that drifts into the haze of the scene. The soft, idealised landscape is a long way from the Atlanta streets his music describes.

The goats are the clearest sign of intent. In rap, the goat stands for "greatest of all time," and putting baby goats around a rapper called Baby makes the claim twice. The title says the same thing: after years as a hit-making collaborator and featured guest, this was his moment to take the top spot. Choosing a painted, almost classical scene gave the boast a calm, settled feel, closer to a portrait of a landowner than a mugshot.

Lil Baby revealed the artwork in early January 2020, and Rap-Up and Billboard reported on it on 2 January. He later shared the tracklist with the caption "My Best Work To Date!" The album went straight to number one on the Billboard 200 and became the most consumed album of 2020 in the United States. A deluxe edition followed in May. The album was released on 28 February 2020.
