It's Almost Dry
After the stark Whitney Houston bathroom photograph on Daytona, Pusha T turned to fine art. The cover of It's Almost Dry was made by Sterling Ruby, the Los Angeles artist whose work runs across ceramics, sculpture, textiles, painting and collage, with art direction credited to Kanye West. Pusha revealed it on social media on 19 April 2022, crediting it simply "by #SterlingRuby". The Fader described it as a collage, and the image is crowded with worn surfaces that look like rust, metal or bark, with the title laid across them in warped, shiny lettering.
The title itself comes from painting. Pusha told Rolling Stone that when people asked when the album would be done, he would answer that it was almost dry, the way a painter talks about a canvas. Hiring a working artist made the joke literal. Ruby's battered textures also suit the album's subject, years of drug-trade imagery treated as raw material. One critic called the result "graphically LAWLESS", a cover that refuses the clean luxury look common in rap packaging.
Ruby made artwork for the singles too, including "Diet Coke" and "Neck & Wrist", which one magazine described as "high energy, partly corroded" works. The set gave the album a consistent look across every release. It was Pusha T's final album for GOOD Music and Def Jam, and it was released on 22 April 2022.
