ye

Kanye West took the cover of ye himself, on his iPhone, on the way to the album's listening party on 31 May 2018, only hours before release, as Kim Kardashian revealed. The photo shows the Teton Range near Jackson Hole, Wyoming, where the album was recorded.

Across the mountains he scrawled a line in neon green handwriting: "I hate being Bi-Polar its awesome." The words turned a quick landscape snapshot into a statement about his mental health, the subject at the centre of the album, and the same lettering was reused for the lyric videos of "All Mine" and "Violent Crimes."

The phone photo replaced an earlier idea. In April 2018 West's planned cover featured Jan Adams, the surgeon who had operated on his mother, and Adams objected publicly, asking West to "cease and desist using my photo or any image of me to promote your album." ye was released on 1 June 2018.
