ASTROWORLD

ASTROWORLD is named after the Six Flags AstroWorld theme park in Houston, which closed and was demolished. "They tore down AstroWorld to build more apartment space," Travis Scott said. For the cover, photographer David LaChapelle built a new entrance for the lost park: a giant golden inflatable of Scott's head, its open mouth serving as the gateway.

The day version shows children, parents and park staff gathered in front of the golden head. An alternate night version shows the same entrance after dark, with the family-friendly crowd replaced by adult-themed content, in LaChapelle's lurid, carefully staged style.

The night cover caused a stir before release. On 1 August 2018, transgender model Amanda Lepore, a frequent LaChapelle collaborator, asked why she had been left off the final version. LaChapelle said she had upstaged the other models, and Scott responded that he respects the LGBTQ community. The album was released on 3 August 2018.
