Invasion of Privacy
The cover of Invasion of Privacy is a fashion portrait. Cardi B wears a head-to-toe black-and-white check look, a coat and dress from Christian Cowan's autumn 2018 collection, with Saint Laurent sunglasses and highlighter-yellow hair set in finger waves. The photograph was taken by Jora Frantzis, who later directed Cardi's "Money" video, and the sleeve was art directed and designed by Nicholas Fulcher. The look was styled by Kollin Carter.
The finger waves gave the image a 1920s flapper glamour, sharpened by the graphic check and the acid-bright hair. Paper described the scene as Cardi caught by a "voyeuristic video camera," which fits the title. Cardi explained the name herself: "This why I named my album Invasion of Privacy, 'cause people will do the most to be nosey about your life." Rolling Stone linked it to her secret marriage to Offset, which had recently become public. On the cover she gives the cameras exactly what she chooses.
Cardi revealed the artwork and title on social media on 27 March 2018, and the image spread quickly. Paper called the outfit instantly iconic, and the yellow hair and checked coat became a ready-made costume for fans. The debut went on to win the Grammy for Best Rap Album, and the cover fixed the image of Cardi at the moment she crossed from viral personality to star. The album was released on 6 April 2018.
