Rodeo
The cover of Rodeo is a photograph of an action figure. Travis Scott wanted a toy version of himself, and he commissioned Dan Chung, a specialist figure maker and former film worker who had collaborated with Spike Lee on Clockers. "He wanted this to happen and would not be denied," Chung said.
Chung built it entirely by hand. "No software, no scanning, no 3D printing," he explained. He sculpted the head in wax from reference photos, made a silicone mould, cast the figure in resin and painted it, used real hair for the braids, reworked the body to match Scott's slim build and tailored custom clothes. "Process-wise, I'm old school," he said.
The figure was photographed so that viewers would wonder whether it was real. The standard cover is a close-up, while the deluxe edition pulls back to show the figure on top of a monster truck. Rodeo was released on 4 September 2015, and three years later ASTROWORLD returned to the idea of Scott as a giant, unreal object.
