Atrocity Exhibition
Danny Brown took the title of his fourth album from Joy Division's song "Atrocity Exhibition," itself borrowed from J.G. Ballard's novel, and the cover is as unsettling as the name. It shows a portrait of Danny Brown warped into deep purples and blacks, set inside a grey frame.
The artwork was created by Timothy Saccenti, the photographer and filmmaker who has also worked on Run the Jewels' covers. The picture is circuit-bent, made by deliberately rewiring electronics so that the image breaks down, and on one side of the rapper's face the skin appears to be peeled back to the bone.
Atrocity Exhibition was released on 27 September 2016 on the British label Warp. Its glitching, decaying cover matched an album about addiction and anxiety, often named among the most daring rap records of the decade.
