Take Care

DrakePortrait2011

On the cover of his second album, Drake sits alone at a table in a dark, wood-panelled room, slumped over a golden goblet, with a tall candlestick and gold ornaments around him. It is an image of a man surrounded by wealth with no one to share it with, which suits an album full of late-night regret and lonely success.

Drake posted the official artwork on his October's Very Own blog on 23 September 2011. Listeners quickly pointed out its close resemblance to Labi Siffre's 1975 album Remember My Song, which also shows a man brooding at a table, and the comparison has followed the cover ever since. Drake has sampled and championed older soul records throughout his career.

The liner notes credit Martin "Drop" Wong for artwork and design, with photography by Hyghly Alleyne and Lamar Taylor. Take Care was released on 15 November 2011 and won the Grammy for Best Rap Album, and its gloomy gold portrait remains one of the most recognisable images of his career.
