Money, Power & Respect
The LOX, the Yonkers trio of Jadakiss, Styles P and Sheek Louch, released their debut on Puff Daddy's Bad Boy Records at the height of the label's glossy, champagne-soaked era. The cover shows the three of them in sunglasses and shiny red and gold outfits, the look that defined that moment in New York rap.
The photographer Daniel Hastings, who shot three album sessions with the group, recalled for Muse by Clio that this one was taken in Yonkers, where they grew up. Puff Daddy brought the shiny suits to the end of the shoot, and Hastings says it was the first and last time the group wore that style.
Money, Power & Respect was released on 13 January 1998, and its title track with DMX and Lil' Kim became a street anthem. The LOX later fought to leave Bad Boy with their "Free the LOX" campaign, which makes the cover a record of an image they quickly left behind.
