All Eyez on Me

2PacPortrait1996

2Pac recorded All Eyez on Me straight after leaving prison and signing with Death Row Records, and the cover introduces the new Pac. He is shirtless except for the black leather strap of a Jean Paul Gaultier vest, his tattoos and jewellery on show, holding his Death Row pendant up towards the camera.

The photograph was taken by Ken Nahoum, Death Row's photographer at the time and the man behind some of 2Pac's most famous images. Juxtapoz described the result as flashier than his earlier style, with Pac staring into the lens in open defiance. In the magazine's words, all eyes are on him, and he knows it.

All Eyez on Me was released on 13 February 1996 as a double album and was later certified Diamond in the United States. Seven months after its release 2Pac was shot in Las Vegas and died at 25, and the cover became the lasting image of his final year.
